The first horses evolved from a creature the same size as the modern day fox.
The modern horse or equus started the evolution process about 55 million years ago. They have changed in so many different ways. Their size, their shape, their colour, their coat and their diet, their temperment. Most of the changes which gave us our modern day equus were brought along by nature, horses as we know them have evolved and adapted to the different climates and countries of the world. However man was not without his input, the temperment of the domestic horse has been moulded and shaped to suit the needs and wants of man. Horses have undergone physical and mental training in order to achieve the tame horse we have today. Some indured brutality and some were just unbrakeable. Different methods were used and different horses were produed. The same may be said for the different breeds of horses, very few natural breeds remain and almost all of them are totally feral. The breeds which we consider most prestigous and elegent were not adhieved by nature, instead they were bread to the specific needs and wants of man. Crossbred and inbred to achieve perfection, to create the ideal dresage horse, hunting horse, trap horse, the best marked horse, the best built horse.......you name it! Yes horses have changed in many different ways.
